治兵衛 漆器:

村瀬家は、江戸時代から続く木地師(木工品を加工、製造する職人)の家です。木地師は納得いく木を選び、荒く型取り長期間乾燥させ轆轤で挽き、その木のもつ特性にあったモノを作っていきます。

国内の原生林が激減するなかで、緻密な木目をもつ、栗、欅、檜、桜、屋久杉をはじめ、埋もれ木である神代欅・杉などの素材を見極め特性を生かす作品作りを目指しております。初代治兵衛は、名古屋時代に、名料亭、八勝館主人や北大路魯山人の依頼により椀を製作した縁から、木地から塗りの一貫制作を始めました。魯山人の美意識は現在の治兵衛漆器の大きな特徴となりました。

1975年　東京都立芸術高等学校卒業

1980年　東京造形大学彫刻科卒業裏千家業躰日々庵鈴木宗幹先生に茶道の教えをうける

1991年　京都嵯峨吉兆にて父子展開催

1993年　日本橋三越本店美術部にて父子展開催、以後福岡等,各地 にて開催 

2001年　三代目治兵衛を襲名、木地師として七代目を継ぐ日本橋三越本店美術部襲名展以後 数年毎に展覧会開催

2009年　妙喜庵・待庵の炉縁製作

2010年　東京国立近代美術館工芸館 ｢現代工芸への視点 茶事をめぐって｣展出品

Display works:

Profile of  Jihei Murase

1957:  Born into a family of Kiji-shi(wood masters), which had been established

during the Edo period.

1980:  Graduated from the  Department of Sculpture,Tokyo Zokei University.

2001:  Succeeded to the role of Jihei Murase as the 3rd generation,(7th generation of the family).

Jihei performs every process of the work himself, from selecting the woods to the finishing touch of  lacquering. He is an expert in  choosing from among Japanese cypress, zelkova tree, chestnut, and cherry seeking the wood which best suits the purpose of each individual creation.

Jihei is also a great Cha-jin, well versed in chanoyu, having grown up in an environment

where matcha was a part of everyday life.

He often holds tea gatherings, using  tea utensils created by  his contemporaries as a means of providing them with the opportunity to play active roles.

Jihei is an innovator, always seeking to create unique forms through the use of the tools and technique he has developed during his many years of experience. Some of his creations are  unprecedented, Jihei achieving, through his artistry, results that were once believed to be  impossible .

He remains on a journey to pursue the possibilities of the items created through the marriage of woods and lacquer.
